BIS UltraProtect® 1000 is a new surface protection which has been developed exclusively by Walraven, available across a range of products for indoor and outdoor use (C1 – C4 environments). The BIS UltraProtect® 1000 products have been specially developed to withstand a salt spray test (ISO 9227) of at least a 1000 hours with a maximum of 5% red rust.
A salt spray test is a standardized test method used to check corrosion resistance. It’s a widely accepted accelerated corrosion test in for example the automotive industry. The apparatus for testing consists of a closed testing chamber, where a salted solution (mainly, a solution of 5% sodium chloride) is atomized by means of a nozzle. This produces a corrosive environment of dense saline fog in the chamber so that parts exposed in it are subjected to severely corrosive conditions. The results of a salt spray test are an indication of the quality of the surface treatment against corrosion.
We are unable to supply a copy of the full test report for confidentiality reasons. All surface treatments have been subjected to a salt spray test according ISO 9227 and we are happy to provide a copy of the certificate which states that the BIS UltraProtect® 1000 surface treatments can withstand 1000 hours salt spray test according ISO 9227 with a maximum of 5% red rust.

C1 – C4 refers to the tables of ‘standard’ systems for steelwork and relate to ‘environment categories C1 – C5’ based upon those given BS EN ISO 12944-2 and ISO 9223.
We strongly recommend that BIS UltraProtect® 1000 installations are inspected annually. They should be cleaned regularly and any accidental damage, such as scratches, dents etc. should be repaired.

We are continously reviewing our product ranges. Our Product Development departments are currently working on additional new products and systems that will fit the BIS UltraProtect® 1000 system.
We have designed the BIS UltraProtect® 1000 range in such a way they it is compatible with other product ranges both from a use and a corrosive perspective. Hot Dip Galvanized products will not have a direct negative effect on the corrosion protection of the BIS UltraProtect® 1000 products. But since the corrosion resistance of HDG products is less when compared to BIS UltraProtect® 1000 products (in a salt spray test according ISO 9227), HDG products will corrode faster. The interaction between the two different products as well as the corrosion run-off on BIS UltraProtect®1000 products will have a negative effect on the corrosion resistance. The use of untreated and/or stainless steel products will also have a negative effect on the durability of a BIS UltraProtect® 1000 system and should be prevented at all times, especially humid conditions.
To preserve the corrosive qualities of the cantilever arms we strongly recommend against cutting or damaging the surface in any other way.
Our BIS RapidStrut® DS5 fixing rail has self healing properties around the edges and can be cut to any required length without damaging the protective properties of the strut.
